A binational centre integrating legal knowledge, policy, and interdisciplinary research on sustainability and climate change, strengthening the long-standing Dutch–Kerala relationship.
Explore Our WorkA binational centre for legal & interdisciplinary research
The Indo-Dutch Research Centre brings together Government Law College, Ernakulam and the Van Vollenhoven Institute at Leiden University, separated by continents but united by a shared question: how do we build communities that can survive, and thrive, in a changing climate?
Current Research
Is Kerala ready for a climate resilient future? That is the question at the heart of Project KERST. Kerala faces real climate risk, from floods to landslides to a threatened coastline. It also has frameworks, plans, and civic energy. KERST asks whether these are connecting, through three lines of inquiry: what legal and policy frameworks say, what communities on the ground experience, and what Kerala and the Netherlands can learn from and contribute to each other.
